Keeping the tradition alive: Mynriah farmer still relies on Almanac for sowing

Bah Phranstar Shabong, a traditional knowledge holder and custodian farmer from Mynriah village, East Khasi Hills, is someone who still practices a unique traditional method of sowing and harvesting based on the moon cycle.

Madanrtiang spearheads community-led indigenous seed preservation

The community seed bank (CSB) in Madanrtiang, Ri-Bhoi District, was set up in 2021, led by the members of the Agroecology Learning Circle (ALC). It was facilitated by NESFAS with the support of REC under the ‘No one shall be left behind initiative’ project, to safeguard and preserve indigenous seeds, promote seed exchange among communities and encourage sustainable use of local varieties of seeds. Community led Food Processing and Value addition training

A two-days training was organised by NESFAS on food processing and small scale value addition for members of Ialamlynti SHG, Ladmawphlang and three PGS group members from Nongtraw. The training focussed in enhancing basic skills of the participants and was facilitated by community members of the Nangkyrsoi SHG, Khweng from 24th to 25th October, 2021 in Lad Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills.
