Mulum Community Seed Bank leads the way in preserving and disseminating Indigenous seeds

Before the intervention of SURE and NESFAS, farmers of the Mulum community in West Jaintia Hills preserved their seeds in the traditional method that had been practised since the olden days – the seeds were either kept hanging above the fireplace or wrapped in a cloth and kept near the fireplace. Seeds of today for fruits of tomorrow

On the 21st of April, 2022, four communities, namely Sasatgre, Mandalgre, Rongchadenggre and Masudigre came together for a seed exchange at Daribokgre, East Garo Hills, one of the model villages of NESFAS in Garo Hills.

Community Seed Fair for strengthening Indigenous Food Systems

A Community Seed Fair exchange visit along with an Agrobiodiversity Walk was held at Sohmynting, West Jaintia Hills on the 16th of April 2022. Organised by NESFAS in partnership with Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE), and funded by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), the event saw the participation of 20 project partner villages along with non-project villages from Demthring, Lumkhudung, Plongingkhaw (Jaintia Hills District).
