NESFAS meets with EKH DC to discuss “Clean & Green” Shillong

As a follow up on discussed agendas taken during the State Level Steering Committee meeting, chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma on the 2nd of September, on initiating a ‘Clean and Green’ Shillong Campaign, NESFAS met with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Shillong, Shri P.S. Dkhar and officers of the various  government departments along with Rangbah Shnongs of various localities in the state.

Stressing on the need to keeping the city clean with the fast approaching Indigenous Terra Madre 2015 and the arrival of guests with it. The Deputy Commissioner opened the proceedings a call for actions to be taken post the SLSC Meeting and invited each of the departments to join hands to make the campaign a success. The aim of the meeting was to formulize holistic ideas to tackle issues of cleanliness throughout the city.

Discussions centered around finding solutions to various issues such as cleaning up of market-places and gutters near hotels, improper waste disposal in and around the city, littering near view-points, absence of signages and dustbins in tourist spots, solid waste management, street lighting, toilet and road requirements and their maintenance among others.

A survey of the city for trouble spots is to be done by NESFAS in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, St. Edmunds, within a 15-day deadline starting from the day of the meeting, and the findings are to be shared with all parties who will act on the solutions to the issues.
