Meet Carol Cassidy
Who is she?
Carol Cassidy is an American who has been working in the field of weaving and textiles for over 25 years. She has studied textiles at the Bergen College of Applied and Fine Art in Norway, at the University of Helsinki in Finland and at the University of Michigan in the US. After working for several years with weavers in Southern Africa she moved to Laos in 1989, where she founded Lao Textiles. Here she produced high quality silks based on traditional designs with a contemporary twist by blending her own artistry with ancient local techniques to create contemporary woven art. Her team predominantly consists of female
weavers who use hybrid looms.
What is she doing in Meghalaya?
Carol plans to do something special with the weavers of Meghalaya. She will develop her idea as she tours around the state meeting the indigenous weavers of the state.
