Foundations on Grass: The Story of Samingre community
Samingre is a small, peaceful village of 100 households, located in West Garo Hills. The village is self-sufficient and most of its people are dependent on agriculture. Samingre is an active and promising partner village of NESFAS. The Community Hall renovation project undertaken by NESFAS has been successfully completed in 2021, and the recent monitoring and cluster workshop was conducted there for Community Facilitators from all of the partner villages of NESFAS in Garo Hills. Khasi people from Nongtraw and NESFAS among recipients of the Prestigious Hallbars Sustainability Publication Award 2021
Hallbars, a Sustainability Research Organisation awarded the contribution of four individuals, organisations, and community from Meghalaya as part of the Best 2021 Sustainability Publication Award. The Indigenous Partnership (TIP), NESFAS, and the Khasi People of Nongtraw were among the 58 awardees for their contribution towards the award winning publication “Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems: Insights on Sustainability and Resilience from the front line of climate Change.”

NESFAS Initiates the Indigenous Youth Fellowship Programme to Defend Local Food Systems
NESFAS inaugrated the 2021 Indigenous Youth Fellowship Programme on April 6, 2021 at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Nongsder, Umiam. This training programme will be for a period of one month, in three main venues; SIRD, Umsawwar (East Khasi Hills) and Khweng (Ri-Bhoi), to train grassroots youth to work towards reclaiming their autonomous food and livelihoods systems and in the process to defend their Indigenous Food Systems (IFS) and identity.
